چکیده

Adsorption and desorption studies on different types of adsorbents, including natural materials such as teak tree bark powder, rice husk, natural bentonite, different algae like Ecklonia maxima, Escherichia coli, Ascophyllum nodasum, Rhizopus nigricans, Cladophora fascicularis, goethite and soils of three nuclear power plant and artificial materials such as Fe oxide-coated sand, goethite pretreated with phosphate, dithizonemodified sodium trititanate whisker, modified nanometre sized TiO2, Chromosorb 102 resins and poly(m-phenylenediamine) are summarized. The kinetics, thermodynamics, sorption/desorption mechanism of different metal ions on different adsorbents under different experimental conditions are discussed. It is found that desorbing agent is greatly dependent on the adsorbate used. All the metal ions are desorbed using acids like HCl, HNO3 and H2SO4 in most of the cases, except Cr(VI). EDTA can be used to remove Pb and Zn in addition to acids. Since Cr(VI) is present in anionic form; it can be eliminated from the loaded adsorbents using bases like NaOH, Na2CO3 or NaHCO3.

Biosorption of Lead (II) and Zinc (II) ions by pre-treated biomass of phanerochaete chrysosporium

The biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of such metal ions from aqueous solutions. In this study, the adsorption properties of nonliving biomass of phanerochaete chrysosporium for Pb (II) and Zn (II) were investigated by the use of batch adsorption techniques. The effects of initial metal ion concentration, initial pH, biosorbent concentration, stirring speed...

Optimization of Continuous Flow Adsorption of Heavy Metal Ions on Continuous System Column by Peganum Harmala Seeds

Background & Aims of the Study: Heavy metals discharge to environment is a worldwide problem growing in scale. When they accumulate in the environment and in food chains, they can profoundly disrupt biological processes. Peganum Harmala Seeds (PHS) was used as a bio-sorbent, using a continuous system for removing Pb2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+ ions from aqueous solutions. ...

Application of Hydrothermal and Non-Hydrothermal TiO2 Nanoporous Materials as New Adsorbents for Removal of Heavy Metal Ions from Aqueous System

Hydrothermal and non-hydrothermal spherical TiO2 nanoporous with crystalline framework were prepared by sol-gel method. The Crystalline structures, morphologies and surface texturing of materials were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms. The Hydrothermal spherical TiO2 nanoporous was found to have a narrow and strong p...

Adsorption and Desorption Process of Chromium Ions Using Magnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and Its Relevant Mechanism

In this study adsorption of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution by Fe3O4 nanoparticles was investigated. Desorption process and recovery of nanoparticles using different solutions were then carried out, and it was observed that NaOH (0.5M) can remove 90% of adsorbed chromium ions. Following the completion of adsorption/ desorption cycles, it was determined that nanoparticles have still had a high abil...

Heavy metals removal from wastewater by using different kinds of magnetite nanoadsorbents: effects of different organic and inorganic coatings on the removal of copper and lead ions

Co-precipitation procedure was applied in order to obtain different kinds of magnetic nanoadsobents for the removal of Pb(II) and Cu(II) toxic metal ions from wastewater samples. Prepared nanoadsorbents were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The average sizes of t...
